Fan “Acquaintance”, Duvelleroy, G.Redon

The fan leaf was printed in the Paris workshop of Duvelleroy based on a design by the French artist, illustrator and caricaturist Georges Redon (Jules Georges Redon 1869-1943).

On the right is the signature “Georges Redon 1904” and a pencil inscription: G.R. No 46\80. This inscription was most likely made by the artist himself and indicates that this fan is the 46th of 80 printed copies.

The front depicts a comic scene: a Parisian dandy wishes to make the acquaintance of a lady in full view of her dismayed husband.

On the reverse side of the fan, at the bottom left, there is an inscription in pen: Duvelleroy.

The frame is made in Japan using traditional techniques: bamboo, lacquer and painting.

The front panels feature miniatures depicting landscapes.
