Fan “Disarming of Cupid”. Duvelleroy

The fan is made in the style of the late XVIIIth century.

On the front, the centre medallion shows a copy of Angelica Kauffman’s painting “Disarming of Cupid”. The two side medallions depict portraits of two girls. The other medallions depict the main love symbols of the XVIIIth century: the altar of love with burning hearts, quivers with arrows and white doves.

The frame is decorated with carvings depicting musical instruments and musical notes – symbols of the holiday.

On the reverse side the contours of the medalions are repeated, in the centre a set of symbols: a quiver of arrows, an arrow hitting a target, a burning torch.

At the bottom left is the fan maker’s signature: Duvelleroy.

The fan is accompanied by a business card of Mr John Ridgely Carter (1864-1944) – American diplomat.
