In the center of the leaf, in an oval medallion is a portrait of the Princess de Lamballe based on an 1843 painting by French artist Louis-Edouard Rioult. Princess de Lamballe was a made of honour and a loyal friend of Marie Antoinette, and her loyality to the royal family she was killed and martyred by a revolutionary mob in September 1792.
Horn frame is carved and gilded.
