After the and of the Revolutionary Terror, the Sans -culottes lost their political influence after a while. Incroyables, young men in elaborate ornate costumes with their companions, the Merveilleuses, appeared on the streets of Paris. The young men held sticks in their hands and chased the Sans -culottes out of their neighbourhoods.
The front of the leaf shows a clash between a representative of the revolutionary poor and young men from aristocratic families.
