On 01 September 1930, the first Transatlantic non-stop flight took place. Commander Diedonne Costes and flight engineer Maurice Bellonte flew from Paris, spent 37 hours in the air, and landed in New York. This event had a great resonance and spurred the development and general fascination with aviation. The aircraft was called “Point d’interrogation” – because the very possibility of such a flight was under great doubt: a year earlier the pilots had made an attempt, but because of engine problems, returned.
The fan has the shape of a question mark to commemorate the flight.
The fan consists of three plates made in the shape of a question mark, depicting the silhouettes of people rushing to shop in a department store.
On the reverse side there are advertising slogans.
