Brise fan “Silhouettes of of the Allies”

The fan is dedicated to the First World War of 1914-1917. The fan was made by a wounded sergeant Ch. Poisson, who was interned in the town of Vernayaz in the Canton of Valais in Switzerland (as evidanced by the inscriptions on the guard sticks of the fan). The fan consists of six silhouettes of the rulers of the states that were part of the allianse, the silhouettes are bound with a ribbon, in the colour of the Franch flag and fixed with a pin and metal head with a star (possibly part of the uniform). All silhouettes are signed: Raymond Poincare – President of France, Nicholas II – Emperor of Russia, George V – King of Great Britain, Victor Emmanuel III – King of Italy, Albert I – King of Belgium, Peter I Karadjordjevic – King of Serbia. To date, several similar fans are known, with some differences in decoration. Perhaps, Sergeant Poisson, being in captivity made several such souvenirs.
