Collage of three fan leaves “The Entry of Henry IV into Paris”

Collage of three fan leaves. The centerpiece is a leaf with a chromolithograph by Palamede de Visconty, made around 1850. The lithograph, in turn, was made from a painting by the French artist Fransois Gerard, “The Entry of King Henry IV into Paris on March 22, 1594”, painted in 1817. The arrival of Henry IV marked the triumph of compromise (in 1593 the King converted to Catholicism), the end of religious wars and the return to political stability with the establishment of the Bourbon dynasty. On the fan leaf, in a left round medallion is a portrait of Henry IV framed with symbols of victory: military armor, weapons, laurel wreath. On the right round medallion is a portrait of Gabrielle dEstre, the Kings favorite, framed with symbols of love: cupids, floral wreaths, kissing doves.
