Leaf: silk, painting.
Frame: wood, metal rings.
The special design of the leaf and frame allows you to open it from left to right to get a regular fan, but when you open it from right to left, you get nine separate segments, as if a fan broke in you hands. Then, after closing the fan, it is whole again.
This fan model was patented by the Parisian fan maker Heaulme-Flueury 17 July 1879.
This novelty fan was popular in the late XIXth – early XXth centures.
