Wood, colour print.
Two identical brise fans, dedicated to the World Exhibition in Paris in 1867.
Based on an engraving by French artist and illustrator Charles Fichot (1817-1903).
The exhibition was very significant: the event gained worldwide fame and popularity, caused the growth of tourism, constuction of hotels, opening of restaurants.
The leaf shows a view of Paris with exhibition pavilion built on the Champ de Mars in the centre, with citizens and tourists rushing to visit the exhibition over the bridge.
On the right is a tourist steamer sailing along the Seine, which was first launched just in time for the exhibition.
